Why is shipping furniture so difficult and time-consuming?
Antique furniture, unlike new furniture, doesn’t come with it’s own factory supplied packaging. This means that either the furniture must be carefully custom-crated in wood crates or blanket wrapped, depending on what it is. An oak sideboard can be blanket wrapped because it’s so heavy and sturdy, while a carved mirror or marble top may have to be crated to protect it from thousands of miles of driving. We have been doing this for decades for ourselves and local clientele, now we are able to do the same for you. Why are we able to keep our prices so low when most in the marketplace are sky-high?
Often the shipping can cost many times the amount of the furniture. They have enormous shipping companies to run and overhead that we simply don’t have. We already have our own warehouse space and employees who already do this work and have for decades, The cost of a driver, fuel and a truck are the only true costs for us. We can help offset enough of these costs by buying and transporting our own items, to make the cost of picking your item up or delivering it very inexpensive relative to the marketplace. What is the standard shipping time-frame?
Normally we need to pick up enough items to fill a truck and pay for the cost of transportation and then send the truck on the road. This usually takes around 2-6 weeks from start to finish for the east coast. The west coast and mid west can be longer at 4-12 weeks. There are a lot of miles where even though the states are large the population is small. This means less buyers and less pickups in the larger midwestern and western states. If we could, we would do it faster, but the sacrifice is speed for savings, especially on the west coast.
